Doraemon Rug

Doraemon Tufted Rug

I love getting the opportunity to try a new craft locally, so was excited when I spotted that rug tufting workshops are now available in the Jewellery Quarter via The Tufting Spot. We don’t have a lot of floor space, so I opted for a small rug, and my mom and nan treated me to a workshop ticket for my birthday at the end of last year.

There was never much doubt on what rug I’d make, I spotted on the Tufting Spot account that cartoon images work well, and Doraemon is my favourite. As a side note, as far as I know, the Doraemon manga has never officially been published in English language editions, but there are Chinese/English and Japanese/English editions for children learning English, which mean you can enjoy it in English.

I spent a very pleasant morning making my rug, followed by a taking myself for lunch nearby. Anna at the Tufting Spot is really supportive, and it’s actually pretty easy (with Anna’s support) to get a good result on your first go. You work from the back of the rug, using a tufting gun, and it’s amazing to see your (slightly) wobbly lines creating a rug on the other side.

Doraemon has found a home in our dining room. Anna has some examples of rugs as wall art in the studio and online, which I think would be a really fun thing to try next.
