Teddy Drew Sweatshirt

Drew Sweatshirt

This is a Tilly and the Buttons Drew Sweatshirt made using fabric scraps I retrieved from our bin!

The last time I had a big tidy of my fabric stash, around a year ago, I was determined to reduce it down to a couple of tubs of fabric lengths (stored in our bedroom), plus one tub of scraps (stored in the loft). I managed it (just about, there are a few additional WIPs piles lurking around the house) partly due to being ruthless with my scraps box including throwing away a bag of sweatshirting scraps.

Shortly after, the Drew Sweatshirt was launched and I realised it was a perfect project for those same knit scraps. Due to the Birmingham Bin Strikes (solidarity to the bin workers who have been on strike since March last year over pay cuts and job losses) the scraps were still in our bin, so I was able to retrieve them and make this sweatshirt! I made a size 5 with no changes, and with the colour placement dictated by the size of the scraps. I definitely want to make this pattern again, possibly sizing down one size, and in a more luxurious fabric.

The patch on the front of the sweatshirt is by Fujibee. I ordered a couple of these patches from Marta back in 2021 and have been saving them for the right project. I also have, and dearly love, a Fujibee Filofax-style planner, which I made a point of ordering to my hotel the last time I was in the US, as I’d been admiring it for ages but wanted to avoid the shipping cost… I use it every few days and it makes me happy every time.
