This is one of two fabrics I bought during a visit to Japan in 2023. I went on holiday planning to buy some pre-quilted fabric, and chose a Hello Kitty print fabric which became a Tamarack jacket. While shopping, I spotted this Doraemon print waffle cotton fabric and decided to buy some with the intention to make a casual shirt.
The fabric sat in my stash for three years, until I saw the Tropical Research (unisex) Laguna Shirt, which was exactly the style of shirt I had originally pictured for this fabric.
I made a size small and paired the fabric with some Pigeon Wishes buttons. I originally made the pattern with no changes, but I felt a bit swamped in fabric due to a combination of the boxy shape and the length on me. I reduced the length of the shirt by several centimetres and levelled out the front and back, maintaining a little side slit. I’m really happy with the shirt now and glad to be wearing this fabric rather than looking at it inside my fabric stash.
