When we booked to travel to New York by ship, earlier this year, I knew I needed to sew a sailor top. I already had this fabric in my stash, and when I started looking at possible patterns, I realised that I already had the perfect pattern – I Am Patterns’ Osiris top. I even had some nautical buttons in my button box, just waiting for this project.
This fabric is a little heavier and drapier than recommended for this pattern, so the base of the neckline sags a little / isn’t such a straight line when worn, but it’s comfortable to wear and I really love it in this fabric.
I made the pattern in size 42 and there’s a fair bit of ease so I could probably size down, although I’m quite fond of an oversized tee these days. The pattern construction has you bind the neckline edges, but my stash failed me at this point, so I simply turned under and neatly finished the edges instead.
I’m really enjoying wearing this top as an alternative to a standard shaped t-shirt this summer. Our next holiday will be in Nice, and I’m looking forward to wearing it beside the sea again in Nice soon.
